I want to Increase Throughput

Evaluating a small number of either total RNA or mRNA samples for quality or quantity can be accomplished by a manual method, such as slab gel electrophoresis or a chip-based analytical system. But when large sample volumes need to be analyzed, the manual-based methods become inadequate to handle the load.

Traditionally, throughput increases can be gained by processing more samples per day (shortening time to results) and/or by decreasing sample handling/preparation time. Using the traditional methods, it is difficult to make changes to either of these, since more samples usually means more time in handling samples, pouring gels, prepping systems, etc.

When sample numbers rise, the NGS Fragment Analyzer™ can increase throughput AND simultaneously shrink the amount of labor needed in the lab. This is accomplished by:

  • Following streamlined sample handling steps.
  • Automating the instrument's self-preparation steps.
  • Automating the electrophoresis process.

All that's left for a lab technician to do is load the marker plate and sample plates onto the instrument, then push a few buttons from the operational software's pre-set or saved methods.

Once the electrophoresis run is complete, the instrument gets itself ready for future experiments by drawing gel and conditioning solution automatically through the capillaries from the HPLC pump. This cleans out the system and eliminates carryover, in contrast to competing technologies that do not replace gel between sample analyses. Further streamlining of the process occurs by analyzing the results with PROSize™ Analytical Software.

The following factors allow improved throughput of RNA on the NGS Fragment Analyzer™:

  1. Superior instrument design to handle up to 4 x 96 well plates at one time (384 samples).
  2. Fast electrophoresis times.
  3. Minimal sample handling - add marker to sample.
