I want to...
I want to Stop Using Manual Slab Gels
Slab gel electrophoresis has not changed much since it was first introduced as a manual process requiring significant hands-on time. Fundamentally, it is a manual process that dates back to the 1920's.
These factors lead to errors and discrepancies, depending on which lab worker is running the manual slab gels:
- Lack of controls for gel preparation. Each person is going to do it a little different.
- Variance in sample loading.
- No standards for interpreting the results. Even with handheld rulers, lab workers might see the bands just a little bit different.
Another major downside associated with usage of slab gels is the manual handling of toxic chemicals and dyes. The AdvanCE™ FS system is fully sealed and self-contained in this regard.
Interestingly, some researchers view the monotonous running of slab gels as an old-fashioned rite of passage for grad students, and even those studying for their doctorate.
But we have heard a different philosophy from some Primary Investigators who have purchased the AdvanCE™ FS Nucleic Acids Analyzer : “Once you've run one gel, you've run them all. I want my grad students and post docs to be doing more important tasks. I want the lab to be more efficient. And I want them to be better prepared for the challenges they will face when they leave my laboratory.”
The AdvanCE™ FS Nucleic Acids Analyzer's superior design and operation makes it an ideal replacement for slab gel electrophoresis. It was designed to be a laboratory workhorse, as it offers:
- streamlined sample handling.
- completely automated gel loading.
- completely automated electrophoresis.
- efficient results generation software.
- easy-to-use analysis software.
The AdvanCE™ FS Nucleic Acids Analyzer can be used to eliminate slab gels because:
- The system was designed to be used by multiple users.
- Training is provided with instrument installation and end-users can be up and running at the end of one day.
- It requires minimal daily maintenance.
- It operates at a low cost of ownership.
- It is backed by a company with hundreds of CE instruments in use worldwide.
